Sid’s Story: from Newbie to Touring ProWhen my student Sid first decided that they wanted to play drums, they had no experience and doubted they would actually ever be able to play them at all.
Now, Sid tours all over the United States playing in different rock bands.
How did that happen?
Simple. Sid learned to play the drums using the same system that I’ll show you in the book.
My Story: from not knowing what to do to being chosen by Neil Peart
When I was a kid, I didn’t know anything about drumming at all except that I really wanted to play. I found a great drum teacher in NYC – named Charlie Davidman – who guided me on what to do. All I did was work on the 5 things he told me to work on. And I practiced a lot.
That’s how I got good. I did what Charlie told me.
It worked. I got good enough at the drums that when I entered Modern Drummer Magazine’s very first drum solo contest, I was chosen as one of the winners. And the judge of that contest was Neil Peart, the late great drummer from Rush.
And do you know what my prize was? Peart’s Slingerland drum set; the one that he used on his first tours with Rush.
